Why to Give

CSC-SCT does not charge for any of its services to members. From support groups to yoga classes to healthy cooking workshops and all the other elements of our calendar, our entire program is free of charge.

Why don’t we charge? Even the smallest fee might be a barrier to someone who needs our services. Cancer is a disease that cuts across all economic strata, and for many, the cost of treatment can become a financial challenge. The community and support that CSC-SCT provides must be open to everyone who walks through our doors. As one CSC member reminded us, “It’s not just free – it’s priceless!”

BUT, our program, carefully designed to be the gold standard of psychosocial support for those affected by cancer, is far from free to operate.

Your support makes it possible. Your support makes a difference.

CSC-SCT operates on a relatively small budget; even a small gift to our annual fund can have a measurable impact on the programs we offer, the professional staff who run our support groups, the coziness of the environment where we have built our community…down to the smallest touches, like the tea available in our kitchen for members who come in just to sit and be with people who can listen and understand what they are feeling that day.

Your support makes a difference to the people you know.

The statistics are brutal. 40% of all Americans will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. In Connecticut, an estimated 20,750 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2010 – an 8% increase over 2009. The good news is that more people are living longer, with better quality of life than ever before. The five year survival rate (averaged across all types of cancer) has risen to 68%.

Statistically, you know that there is a need for the unique, robust program of services that CSC provided. But the odds are that you know how firsthand how much we are needed – through experience with friends or family, colleagues or neighbors who have been affected by cancer.

CSC-SCT is currently engaged in a campaign to Open Our Doors. Our facility will be the first affiliate to be based in Connecticut, serving members from four counties. Your visionary support can help us bring this important resource to our community.
